The competition of the initiators TOP HAiR International and Schwarzkopf professional is considered the "Oscar of the hairdressing industry" and is the only independent photo competition in the industry. The most professional and creative submissions will be evaluated and awarded in various categories from “Newcomer” to “Avangarde”. The images go through two judging rounds. The jury consists of opinion leaders from the fields of fashion, press, photography and the hairdressing industry. The photo collections are rated according to the overall impression of the quality of the hairstyle and make-up and the concept behind the photo series. The jury's favorites, the nominees, were created from over 4,000 images. The characteristics that particularly distinguish the German Hairdressing Award are its company independence and the neutrality of the jury.

The hairdressers are not tied to certain product brands when creating theirs, which means: Everyone can take part and present their talent to a broader public. The German Hairdressing Award offers hairdressers a platform on which they can live out their love of work and their own personal Present handwriting to a large audience.
